Turkey’s hot-rolled steel imports drop in 2024 amid AD measures

11 Feb 2025 16:33 reported by Rita Su

Turkey’s hot-rolled steel imports fell by 16% year-on-year in 2024 to 4.23 million tons, driven by anti-dumping duties imposed on imports from China, India, Japan, and Russia.

China remained Turkey’s largest supplier, exporting 1.9 million tons, while Egypt surged to second place with 615,000 tons, more than double its 2023 volume.

Imports from Russia declined 6% to 581,000 tons, while Japan saw a sharp 60% drop to just 87,000 tons. India, which exported 53,500 tons to Turkey in 2023, recorded zero exports in 2024.

Other key suppliers included South Korea, which shipped 484,000 tons (down 22% year-on-year), followed by France (123,000 tons), Taiwan (119,000 tons), and Italy (44,000 tons). The decline in imports highlights Turkey’s strategic trade policies aimed at protecting its domestic steel industry and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers.
