Turkey’s coated steel coil imports grow in 2024

Turkey’s coated steel coil imports (HS code 7210, width ≥600mm) increased by 4.9% year-on-year in 2024, reaching around 986,000 tons, driven by an influx of low-cost materials from Asian suppliers.

South Korea remained Turkey’s largest supplier, exporting 311,000 tons, a 4.5% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, imports from China surged by 77% to 215,000 tons, marking a significant jump.

In response to the sharp rise in imports, particularly from China, Turkey initiated an anti-dumping (AD) investigation in December 2024 on cold-rolled, galvanized, and pre-painted steel coils from China and South Korea. Authorities may impose temporary AD duties during the investigation period, potentially with retroactive enforcement, which could significantly limit imports in 2025.
