Turkey’s HRC imports & value fall in Q1 y-o-y

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey's hot-rolled coil (HRC) imports reached around 837,000 tons in the first quarter of this year, falling by 24% compared to the year-ago period. The import value dropped by 32% year on year to US$476 million.

Among them, the supply from China accounted for the largest share, totaling roughly 304,000 tons, down by 48% year on year. Russia ranked second with 179,000 tons, a year-on-year surge of 76%, followed by South Korea’s 110,000 tons with a year-on-year hike of 22%.

In March alone, Turkey imported around 185,000 tons of HRC, falling by 19% month on month and by 58% year on year. The value generated by these imports was approximately US$111 million, down by 12% from the preceding month and by 60% year on year.
