According to statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of China, China's crude steel production totaled around 86 million tons in April, falling by 7.3% from the preceding month while remaining flat year on year. The output in the first four months amounted to 345.4 million tons, a slight 0.4% increase from the corresponding period a year ago.

Meanwhile, the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) reported a slight month-on-month rise of 0.2% in daily output for key steel companies in early May, hinting at a potential production rebound for the month, possibly due to eased US-China tariffs.

In April, China’s steel product output rose by 6.6% year on year to 125 million tons, with the January-April total up by 6% year on year at 480 million tons. Meanwhile, pig iron production grew by 0.7% year on year to 72.6 million tons, and the production in the first four months had a 0.8% year-on-year increase to 288.9 million tons.
