IABr: Brazil produces 0.3% less crude steel but imports 27.5% more in Jan-Ap

According to the Brazilian Steel Institute (IABr by its portuguese abbreviation), the country's crude steel production fell 0.3% year-on-year during the first four months of 2025 to 11 million tons.

On the other hand, Brazil imported 2.2 million tons of steel products during this period, a sharp increase of 27.5% on the same comparison basis. In contrast, steel exports fell 4.4% year-on-year to a volume of 3.1 million tons.

Furthermore, IABr indicated that apparent consumption of Brazilian steel products was 8.8 million tons, an increase of 8.4%, on the same comparison basis.
