Brazil uncovers fraudulent scheme on imports of cold-rolled stainless steel

Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) has stopped a fraudulent scheme involving steel imports. An investigation by the ministry's Secretariat of Foreign Trade (SECEX) found that cold-rolled stainless steel, officially imported from Turkey, actually used inputs mostly from Indonesia.

Since 2022, Brazil has applied an 18.79% anti-dumping (AD) duty on cold-rolled stainless steel from Indonesia due to unfair trade practices. SECEX concluded that these Turkish-labeled products should face the same AD duties as their true origin is Indonesia.

This action demonstrates the government's commitment to enforcing rules of origin and protecting domestic industries from unfair trade.

The products involved are cold-rolled stainless steel under tariff codes 7219.32.00, 7219.33.00, 7219.34.00, 7219.35.00, and 7220.20.90 of the Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM).
