Latin America's steel demand surges

23 Jul 2025 16:37 reported by Alston Tsai

A A A
According to the customs statistics, China's steel exports to Latin American countries reached 13.87 million tons in 2024, with an annual growth rate of 21.2%, accounting for 12.5% of total exports. This data highlighted the high dependence of the Latin American market on China's supply.

As these countries actively promote infrastructure and urbanization, the demand for steel continues to expand. Sectors like construction, transportation, and energy have boosted actual demand, especially for high-strength structural steel, rebar, and pipeline steel products, showing stable growth.

Market reports indicated that by 2025, steel demand in related fields is expected to exceed 50 million tons. Overall, Latin America is becoming a major export market for Chinese steel. In the future, as the regional economy grows, China's steel will interact more closely with these countries.
