German pig iron & crude steel production declines in Jul y-o-y

According to statistics from the German Steel Federation (WV Stahl), German steel production showed a downturn in July. Pig iron output dropped by 18.3% year on year to 1.74 million tons, and crude steel production also fell, decreasing by 13.7% year on year to 2.72 million tons.

By furnace types, converter steel production declined by 19.6% to 1.9 million tons, and electric arc furnace output increased by 4% to 820,000 tons.

In the first seven months of this year, cumulative crude steel production amounted to 19.83 million tons, a 12.1% decrease from the same period in 2024. If the monthly downward trend persists, total production for the year may fall below 34 million tons, reaching a new historical low.
