Data from the Brazil Steel Institute (Instituto Aço Brasil, IABr) show that Brazil’s crude steel production reached nearly 2.87 million tons in August 2025, down by 4.6% year on year. Rolled product output fell by 5.5% to 1.98 million tons, flat products decreased by 5.1% to 1.12 million tons, and long products declined by 6.1% to 861,000 tons.

Domestic steel sales dropped by 6.9% to 1.8 million tons, and apparent steel consumption fell by 11.3% to 2.2 million tons. Exports, however, rose by 4% to 861,000 tons, while imports decreased sharply by 24% to 491,000 tons.

For the first eight months of 2025, compared with the same period in 2024, crude steel production decreased by 1.5% to 22.18 million tons, while rolled product output remained stable at 15.84 million tons. Semi-finished products for sale fell by 11.4% to 5.38 million tons.

During the same period, domestic steel sales increased by 0.6% to 14.2 million tons, apparent consumption rose by 5.3% to 18.2 million tons, imports grew by 16.5% to 4.6 million tons, and exports increased by 1.9% to 7.1 million tons. Imported products accounted for 22.1% of Brazil’s apparent steel consumption, up from 18.4% in the same period of 2024.
