According to the Czech Steelworkers' Union (Ocelářská unie), crude steel production in the Czech Republic reached about 1.3 million tons in the first half of 2025, a 2% year-on-year increase. Apparent steel consumption also increased, reaching 3.2 million tons, a nearly 300,000-ton year-on-year increase.

In the first half of the year, Czech metallurgical companies produced 1.04 million tons of pig iron, a 1.8% year-on-year increase. Rolled metal product output reached 1.45 million tons, a 3% increase. Of this total, long products, plate products, and tubes produced 990,000 tons, 282,000 tons, and 167,000 tons, representing increases of 3.2%, 6.4%, and 38%, respectively.

While this modest increase in steel production suggests positive market momentum, it stems from a very low base last year. Current steel production is still far from reaching the levels of a few years ago.

Furthermore, persistently low steel demand, high energy prices, geopolitical uncertainty, and pressure on manufacturers to decarbonize are hindering the industry's growth.
