Vietnam starts AD investigation on wider-sized hot-rolled steel from China

Vietnam's Trade Remedies Authority has formally launched an anti-dumping (AD) investigation into wider-sized hot-rolled steel from China. The probe was initiated based on a domestic industry request on September 10, which concerns HRC products with widths of more than 1,880 mm to less than 2,300 mm.

The authority confirmed the petition filed by domestic steel producers was valid on September 18.

The investigation was initiated due to a sharp rise in imports of this specific product type from China. In April alone, the volume of hot-rolled steel with widths of 1,880 mm or more soared by 81% compared to the whole first quarter of 2025. This surge was considered an attempt to evade a temporary AD duty imposed on some hot-rolled steel products in February.

The authority will now appraise the case within 45 days.
