According to the latest data from Mexico's National Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (CANACERO), the country's crude steel consumption fell 7.6% year-on-year in July of this year to 2.52 million tons, which means 15 consecutive months of contraction.

However, the country's crude steel production registered an 8% year-on-year increase in July, to 1.09 million tons.

During the first seven months of 2025, Mexico's cumulative crude steel production reached 8.11 million tons, a 3.7% year-on-year drop; meanwhile, consumption reached 16.98 million tons, also falling 8.5% year-on-year.

These data reflect the high dependence on imports to meet domestic demand and highlight the structural challenges that the Mexican steel industry is facing.
