US rate clarity and rising raw material costs lift stainless steel prices

Taiwan’s major stainless steel producers, including Walsin Lihwa and Tang Eng, have announced the price increases for October, owing to clearer US interest rate and tariff outlooks, coupled with rising raw material costs.

Walsin Lihwa increases prices for its 300 series price and 316 surcharge by NT$1,000/ton, while keeping 200 and 400 series flat. Tang Eng maintains flat prices for its 304 and 316L products.

Market participants said that although the current demand hasn't recovered, restricted supply due to China's policies of anti-involution and production control, and increased production costs will keep the fourth-quarter stainless steel prices stable or higher. Besides, the clear direction on US policy is also expected to encourage market activity during the traditional peak season.
