India’s steel producer Jindal Steel announced the commissioning of a 250 MT Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) Converter at its Angul steel plant, adding 3 MTPA of crude steel capacity.

With the expansion, the total capacity at the Angul plant is increased from 6 MTPA to 9 MTPA. The steel producer's goal is to reach 12 MTPA at the facility within the current financial year.

The company also recently commissioned Blast Furnace 2 and is integrating the flow into downstream mills. Jindal Steel Chairman Naveen Jindal said that the capacity expansion strengthens India’s domestic steel production.
