Taiwan’s major stainless steel mills expected to benefit from AD probe

Taiwanese major stainless steel producers, including Yieh United Steel Corp. (Yusco), Tang Eng Iron Works Co., Ltd., and Walsin Lihwa, are expected to benefit from a formal anti-dumping (AD) investigation on cold-rolled stainless steel imports from Vietnam, which is predicted to begin this month.

The documentation will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance after the Mid-Autumn Festival. Cold-rolled stainless steel imports from Vietnam have recently sharply decreased, as buyers worry about potential temporary AD duties.

Customs data shows that Vietnamese cold-rolled stainless steel imports to Taiwan surged from just 400 tons in 2022 to over 30,000 tons in 2024, with prices significantly lower than domestic products.

Domestic stainless steel mills claimed Vietnam was dumping excess capacity, disrupting fair competition. They pointed out that South Korea has already imposed AD duties on the product. The investigation could improve the competitiveness of Taiwanese steel companies.
