Kazakhstan’s Qarmet started building a new hot-dip galvanizing and polymer coating complex. Qarmet said the new lines are a key part of its strategic program to upgrade and expand the production capacity of its steelmaking division. The project involves an investment of about 84 billion tenge and is scheduled for launch in 2027.

Belgium’s John Cockerill, whose technology is used in major steel plants across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, was chosen as the equipment supplier through a competitive process. Qarmet currently operates two hot continuous galvanizing lines with a combined capacity of 592,000 tons per year and one polymer coating line producing about 115,000 tons annually.

The new complex will raise total output to 844,000 tons of galvanized steel and 254,000 tons of polymer-coated products per year, while expanding the product range. Qarmet said the project will fully supply Kazakhstan’s demand for galvanized and coated steel and strengthen the company’s role in the country’s metallurgical development.
