Outokumpu’s stainless steel sales up in Jan-Sep period

3 Nov 2025 15:25 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Outokumpu, a leading stainless steel manufacturer in Europe based in Finland, reported a year-on-year increase of 1% in sales volume for January-September 2025, reaching 1.39 million tons. This growth was primarily driven by North and South America, where volumes rose by 4% to 478,000 tons. Sales in Europe, however, fell by 1% to 925,000 tons.

Despite the higher stainless steel shipments, the group's revenue dropped by 5% to EUR 4.31 billion in the first nine months of this year due to significantly lower stainless steel prices, especially in Europe.

Adjusted EBITDA for the period slid by 13% year on year to EUR 157 million, resulting in a net loss of EUR 72 million. The company attributed the weak profitability to soft European demand and the presence of cheap Asian steel imports.

Outokumpu predicted a further 5-15% decline in stainless steel supply in the fourth quarter of this year due to weak seasonal demand in America and a sluggish EU market.
