Chinese steel exports decline in Oct m-o-m, y-o-y

A A A
After the surge in September, China's finished steel exports fell in October due to concerns over possible export tax inspections. In October, finished steel exports reached 9.782 million tons, 6.5% less than the previous month, 12.5% less than the previous year.

In the first ten months of this year, China's finished steel exports totaled 97.737 million tons, up 6.6% year on year.

As for imports, in October, China imported 503,000 tons of finished steel, 8.2% less than the previous month, 6.2% less than the previous year.

The drop in October steel exports was expected by the market, since only a few overseas orders were placed in August due to high steel prices at that time. On the other hand, some shipments were moved ahead to September due to worries about possible tax inspections.
