India’s steel exports rise as imports plunge in Oct; production and demand strengthen

India’s finished steel exports continued to rise in October 2025, reaching 640,000 tons, up 9.6% month-on-month and 44.8% year-on-year. Imports fell sharply to 450,000 tons, dropping 29.6% from September and 55.6% from last year, as domestic supply remained highly competitive.

Crude steel and finished steel production also grew, rising 9.4% and 10.1% year-on-year, respectively. Domestic consumption increased to 13.64 million tons, supported by strong infrastructure and manufacturing demand.

Joint Plant Committee (JPC) expects the Indian steel market to stay stable in the near term, though export momentum may ease due to weak global prices.
