Alacero: Latin American crude steel production expected to decline in 2025

17 Nov 2025 15:07 reported by Ana Lee

A A A
The Latin American Steel Association (Alacero) forecasts that Latin American crude steel production will decrease by 2.5% year-on-year to 55.39 million tons in 2025, while finished steel production is expected to decline by 3.5% year-on-year to approximately 50 million tons.

Alacero forecasts that Latin America's economic growth rate to be only 2.4% in 2025, again below the global average. External factors contributing to weak economic growth include a high-tariff environment and unresolved geopolitical issues, while internal factors are primarily high interest rates and high inflation.

Latin America's steel production this year is expected to be approximately 50 million tons, a decrease of 3.5% year-on-year. Long steel production is projected at 25.13 million tons, a decrease of 1.7% year-on-year. Plate and seamless steel pipe production are also expected to decline.
