Brazilian steel industry calls for AD measures to curb price competition from China

Brazil's National Institute of Steel Distributors (INDA) recently stated in a briefing that anti-dumping (AD) duties are the only effective means to curb the surge in steel imports from China. In addition, existing import restrictions have failed to alleviate competition from Chinese suppliers.

Although October imports declined by 9.2% year-on-year, the figure still grew by 4% month-on-month. At present, over 500,000 tons of imported steel are backlogged at Brazilian ports awaiting clearance. While market inventory decreased slightly by 1% month-on-month, it remains 9.3% higher than the same period last year.

Due to a significant 26.9% year-on-year increase in galvanized steel sales, Brazilian steel mills anticipate that the authority will impose new AD measures on pre-painted coated steel and galvanized steel in the coming months.
