ArcelorMittal completes $500 million electrical steel investment in France

5 Dec 2025 14:34 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
ArcelorMittal is preparing to launch the first phase of its new electrical steel production unit in Mardyck, France, near Dunkirk, by the end of 2025. This US$500 million project is the group’s largest European investment in the past decade.

The first three production lines (preparation, annealing-coating, and slitting) are prepared and ready to begin operation. The full project, which will include five new production lines by 2027, will support the electrification of the automotive, energy, and industrial sectors.

This new unit complements the existing facility at the Saint-Chély-d’Apcher site, raising ArcelorMittal’s European electrical steel capacity to 295,000 tons per year, all produced in France.

The investment received an EUR 25 million support from the French State under the France 2030 programme.
