Worldsteel: Global crude steel production slides in Dec 2025 y-o-y

According to statistics from the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global crude steel production totaled 139.6 million tons in December 2025, sliding by 3.7% compared to the same month a year ago.

Among them, Asia and Oceania’s crude steel production reached about 99.7 million tons, falling by 6.3% year on year, of which China's output accounted for 68.2 million tons, down by 10.3% year on year. The crude steel production from 27 EU countries was around 9.9 million tons, hiking by 3.9% year on year. The CIS countries produced roughly 6.9 million tons, down by 2.7% year on year.

During the period, North American crude steel output was 9 million tons, going down by 0.4% year on year; South American output was 3.2 million tons, rising by 1.2% year on year. Crude steel production in Africa went down by 0.3% year on year to 1.9 million tons, and the output in the Middle East grew by 13.9% year on year to 5.3 million tons.

In 2025, global crude steel output amounted to roughly 1.8 billion tons, a year-on-year reduction of 2%.
