Vietnam has unveiled an ambitious long-term roadmap for the development of its steel industry, targeting crude steel output of 70 million tons by 2050 and aiming to achieve near-complete self-sufficiency in domestic supply.

Covering the period from 2030 to 2050, the strategy is structured into three distinct phases, each with clearly defined production and consumption milestones.

The main aim of the country is to gradually reduce dependence on imports while providing stronger support for downstream manufacturing industries. Also, environmental sustainability is identified as a key pillar of future development. In addition, the Vietnamese government has called for a more balanced geographic distribution of steel production capacity.
