JFE Steel hikes general steel sheet prices by 10,000 yen per ton for May shipments

13 Mar 2026 13:31 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
JFE Steel announced a price increase of 10,000 yen per ton for domestic hot-rolled, cold-rolled, and coated steel sheets, starting with May shipments. This adjustment, the first for general-purpose sheets in approximately two years, translates to a 5% to 10% rise depending on the product.

The company is passing on rising costs driven by expensive raw materials, the weakening yen, and higher labor expenses.

These thin steel sheets are essential for machinery, appliances, and materials such as pipes.

This price revision targets general-purpose products sold to manufacturers such as domestic pipe producers and re-rollers, excluding specific long-term contracts for the automotive and electrical machinery sectors.
