Taiwan's HGI prices surge amid supply tightness and rising global costs

Taiwan's hot-rolled coils are in shortage, which boosts prices along with the global steel price increase.

Hot-dip galvanized steel coil (HGI) prices had been up before China Steel Corporation's (CSC) new list price announcement. The HGI market players said the price will further increase after CSC announces its new list prices.

After the Chinese New Year holidays, CSC steel prices had been brought up, although a higher price level led to deals slowing down.

However, the energy and freight costs rose after the Middle East war breakout had brought up global steel prices and also steel mills’ costs, all these factors gave the HGI price an upward trend with a solid upward trend.

CSC plans to release a new list price for April steel delivery on Mar 19; all HGI market players are planning for another price upward strategy.
