Angang Steel successfully develops 1000 MPa-grade ultra-high-strength and high-toughness steel plates

Angang Steel has successfully developed 1000 MPa-grade ultra-high-strength and high-toughness steel plates for hydropower applications, which have passed a technical review by industry experts. The experts highly recognized the product, confirming that it fully meets the requirements for critical components in large hydropower projects, such as penstocks, bifurcation pipes, spiral cases, and distributor pipes.

The development of this steel grade is extremely challenging, as it requires achieving ultra-high strength, excellent toughness (at both high and low temperatures), and good weldability while strictly controlling carbon equivalent (Ceq) and weld crack sensitivity (Pcm).

By combining theoretical innovation with engineering practice, Angang’s R&D team optimized alloy design and precisely controlled rolling and heat treatment processes. They successfully overcame key technical barriers, particularly achieving a balance between ultra-high strength and toughness under low carbon conditions, thus filling a technological gap in the industry.
