Taiwan’s flat-rolled steel distribution prices grow after CSC hikes rates

Major distributors in Taiwan are preparing to raise market prices after China Steel Corporation (CSC) and Chung Hung Steel announced significant increases for April.

Monthly rates for hot-rolled and cold-rolled coils rose by NT$1,200 per ton, and galvanized products increased by NT$1,000 to 1,200 per ton. This upward trend pushed hot-rolled distribution targets toward NT$19,000, with cold-rolled and pickled steel moving toward NT$20,000.

Although overall demand remains steady, distributors face higher procurement costs as low-priced inventory runs out. As a result, sellers are prioritizing cost recovery despite potential resistance from buyers.

While inquiry activity surged just before CSC’s official price announcement, the market now monitors whether this purchasing momentum continues as prices reach new levels.
