German steel production rises in Feb y-o-y

Germany's steel output increased 4.8% year-on-year in February 2026 to 2.83 million tons, though it fell 8.1% from the previous month.

Basic oxygen furnace production rose 7.3% y-o-y to 1.97 million tons, while electric arc furnace output edged down 0.4% to 860,000 tons. Pig iron production grew 6.1% y-o-y to 1.8 million tons, and hot-rolled steel output climbed 8.3% to 2.6 million tons.

In the first two months of the year, total steel production reached about 5.9 million tons, up 9.9% y-o-y, though the industry association noted levels remain below the long-term average. The increase follows a weaker 2025, when Germany's annual steel production fell 8.6% to 34.09 million tons.
