US’ steel exports slip in Feb m-o-m, y-o-y

The US’ steel exports totaled about 563,000 tons in February, decreasing by 0.3% from January and down 8.3% year-on-year, according to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce. In value terms, exports reached around US$1.05 billion, up from US$1.04 billion in January but below US$1.08 billion in February 2025.

Exports to Mexico increased by 9.9% month-on-month and 16.6% year-on-year to 358,000 tons. Meanwhile, exports to Canada fell by 17.9% from January and declined by 34.8% year-on-year to 171,000 tons. Other export destinations included Brazil with 3,600 tons, India with 1,900 tons, and China with 1,500 tons.

Major export products included hot-dip galvanized steel at 105,000 tons, cut-to-length plates at 61,000 tons, cold-rolled sheets at 58,000 tons, hot-rolled sheets at 48,000 tons, and steel plates in coils at 45,000 tons.
