Taiwan's steel plate shortage drives prices upward

29 Apr 2026 13:45 reported by Ellen Huang

A A A
Taiwan's China Steel Corporation (CSC) is raising steel plate prices while reducing production, which is boosting steel prices.

In addition, as import quantities have significantly dropped, the market is facing a material shortage, and prices are rising uncontrollably for now. So far, the general A36 plate price is up by around 27% in the Taiwan market compared to early this year.

The import prices from Japan and South Korea have been much higher, too, or have withdrawn from the Taiwan market temporarily.

All situations indicate that the Taiwan market steel plate shortage will last for a long time, and prices will keep trending upward.
