Taiwan’s hot-rolled steel prices reach Asian high after CSC hikes

13 May 2026 14:23 reported by Joy Liu

Taiwan’s China Steel Corporation (CSC) increased its June hot-rolled coil (HRC) prices by NT$1,200 per ton, bringing the new average price for prime and project-grade products to NT$21,050. This adjustment completes a three-month increase totaling NT$3,600, a rate of increase exceeding that of other Asian steelmakers. Taiwan’s steel prices now stand among the highest in Asia, positioned significantly above current offers in the Vietnamese market.

Successful anti-dumping actions against Chinese hot-rolled steel removed competitors, granting CSC control over domestic pricing.

In addition, rising global costs for fuel and raw materials supported these price hikes. Besides local dominance, CSC continues to benefit from strong demand in Western markets for steel slabs, driven by global supply disruptions and increased operational costs.
