ArcelorMittal Belgium restarts Galva 5 coating line after 4-year halt

ArcelorMittal Belgium has brought its Galva 5 hot dip galvanizing line in Flémalle back into operation after four years, increasing the supply of metallic-coated steel in thicker gauges across Europe. The restart took place after the company acquired the line in July 2025 and completed a full upgrade program.

Work included refurbishment of the roof, coil feeding systems, pickling section, and zinc bath, along with improvements to digital infrastructure. About 70 employees now operate the facility, supported by training and strict safety supervision.

The line processes hot-rolled coils from Ghent and serves sectors such as road safety equipment, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning) components, and automotive applications.

With a capacity up to 6.35 mm thickness and 1,880 mm width, Galva 5 supports an efficient production route and a range of metallic coatings.
