British Steel obtains Egypt’s Green Line rail contract

3 Apr 2024 16:02 reported by Lily Nguyen

A A A
British Steel, a long steel products supplier, is playing a crucial role in Egypt's groundbreaking Green Line railway project, the country's first fully electrified mainline and freight network spanning 660 km from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean.

The company's Scunthorpe facility has produced 9,500 tons of high-quality tracks specifically for this ambitious endeavor. Two significant shipments of these rails are scheduled for transportation from British Steel's facilities to the northern Egyptian port of Alexandria, one this month and another in June. These rails will be instrumental in extending the Green Line from Alexandria through El Alamein to the Mediterranean coast in the north-west and eastwards towards the Gulf of Suez and the Red Sea.
