Mukand Ltd. awarded SMS group the contract to upgrade an existing two-strand bloom caster at its Kalwa facility in Thane, Maharashtra, India, marking a significant modernization effort for one of the plant's first-generation casting units. 

The project introduced new casting section capabilities to support the production of stainless steel rebar and wire rods, including the addition of a new 250 x 300-millimeter bloom section for the bar mill. 

SMS delivered a comprehensive upgrade package encompassing supply, installation, and commissioning of advanced technologies designed to enhance overall casting performance and reliability. Key improvements included a state-of-the-art air-mist cooling system for superior thermal control and improved casting quality, alongside a next-generation withdrawal and straightening unit fitted with an AC drive for smoother, more consistent operation. 

The project was brought to successful completion with the issuance of the final acceptance certificate (FAC), confirming that all performance and quality benchmarks had been met.
