On October 4, the Colombian government announced a safeguard measure on imports of steel rebar for concrete reinforcement from the countries of the Andean Community, specifically Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru.

According to Colombia's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the measure will be valid for two years, with an annual quota of 29,529.03 tons that can enter freely to Colombia, while imports exceeding this quota must pay a tariff of 14.5%.

This measure was requested by the Colombian steel industry, revealing that steel rebar imports from these countries have significantly affected the national steel industry.

In 2023, imports of this product from the Andean Community reached around 33,700 tons. During the first seven months of 2024, this number added up to roughly 20,500 tons.
