Brazil aims for $300 billion annually for climate finance goals

25 Nov 2024 15:40 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Brazil proposed that developed countries provide at least US$300 billion in climate financing to developing countries per year, and climate finance should be further increased to US$390 billion per year by 2030 to achieve the goals recommended by United Nations experts. This proposal exceeded the US$250 billion per year target projected by 2035 in the presidential draft text.

The funds proposed by Brazil consist mainly of public financing to further mobilize resources to achieve the overall target of US$1.3 trillion per year. In comparison, the US$250 billion figure in the draft was considered too low. This figure would be close to the US$100 billion annual target set in 2009 after accounting for inflation.

The parties haven’t reached a consensus, indicating that differences still exist on the issue of climate financing.
