South Africa's steel producer Scaw Metals has completed its first batch of slab and hot-rolled coil production using Danieli equipment at its Johannesburg Works. The company expanded its product portfolio, increased production capacity, and aimed to become the flat product hub for sub-Saharan Africa.

The hot-rolled coils will be supplied to the downstream pipe mills of the Barnes Group and other flat steel consumers.

The new equipment includes a slab caster, a hot strip mill, a reheating furnace with PHL firing logic, a soon-to-be operational electric arc furnace (EAF), and a water treatment facility to support green steel production.
