Brazil’s Gerdau to begin construction of new solar park in Barro Alto

10 Dec 2024 15:42 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Gerdau S.A. (Gerdau), one of the largest steelmakers in Brazil, announced that it will cooperate with its subsidiary Gerdau Aços Longos and indirectly held Newave Energia to build a solar park with a total capacity of approximately 452 MWp in Barro Alto in northern Goiás state, Brazil.

The total investment of this project is around R$1.3 billion. The construction completion is planned for the first half of 2026.

The park is divided into seven special purpose entities (SPEs), three of which are fully owned by Gerdau, with a production capacity of roughly 43 MW. The production capacity of the remaining four SPEs, around 23 MW, will be allocated based on Gerdau and its subsidiaries’ shareholding ratio in Newave Energia.

Once operational, the park will supply an average of 66% of renewable energy for Gerdau’s steel production units in Brazil, equivalent to an average capacity of 66 MW.
