To protect the domestic steel industry and reduce external competitive pressure, the Turkish government implemented new import tariffs with higher rates on certain steel products.

Effective on January 1, 2025, the import tariff duty on hot-rolled steel products was hiked to 15% from the previous 11%, and that on cold-rolled steel products was increased to 17% from 15% in the previous year.

A new 20% import tariff will be imposed on galvanized steel products, including alloyed sheets with a width of 600mm, and pre-painted galvanized steel (PPGI) imports will also face a duty of 20%.
