Brazil's wind power industry slows in 2024, with growth expected to rebound by 2027

The wind power industry in Brazil slowed down in 2024, according to local association ABEEolica (the Brazilian Association of Wind Energy), which anticipates continued challenges before growth picks up again in 2027.

The country saw a surge in renewable power supply in recent years, fueled by substantial government incentives and subsidies. However, slower demand growth and an oversupply of wind power, exacerbated by high costs, have weighed on the sector.

ABEEolica mentioned that the number of new wind farms built in 2024 declined compared to the previous year. Despite this, the association forecasts a recovery in 2027, driven by accelerated expansion of Brazil’s power grid, stronger economic growth, and rising demand from industries such as data centers and green hydrogen.

ABEEolica head Elbia Gannoum emphasized the need for the industry to be prepared for these upcoming opportunities.
