Turkey is actively seeking a solution to the issue of the increased import tariffs imposed by Syria's new government on Turkish products to up to 300% on January 11, 2025.

In 2024, Turkey's total exports to Syria reached US$2.2 billion, mainly including steel, cement, and wheat. Among them, rebar exports from January to November increased by 37% year on year to 124,500 tons. Turkish steel mills were optimistic about Syria's reconstruction, expecting it to boost steel exports and prices.

The two nations have started negotiations on new tariffs and will continue to consult on trade, customs, and diplomatic affairs in the hope of eliminating uncertainties and promoting economic and trade cooperation.
