Argentina's steel sector urges government to negotiate with US to reverse additional tariffs against Argentine steel

Following Donald Trump's announcement on the new additional 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports from all countries in the world starting from March 12, the Argentine steel sector urges the government to negotiate with the US to reverse this measure against Argentina.

Argentina's Steel Chamber (CAA) stated that Argentina represents only 0.2% of world production and exports steel products to North America as materials for its production process, which is duly authorized by competent North American agencies.

In 2018, the US established a general tariff of 25% for steel imports for reasons of national security; in that same year, Argentina agreed to an annual quota of 180,000 tons of steel free of tariffs, of which 150,000 tons corresponded to oil pipes; another exclusion for Argentine steel is that there is no production of such products in the US.
