Dubai & Saudi Arabia exports hit by new US import tariffs

19 Feb 2025 14:35 reported by Iona Chen

The US' 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum have started negatively impacting exports from Dubai and Saudi Arabia. The UAE’s main aluminum producers, including Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) and Dubai Aluminium (DUBAL), export significant quantities of products to the US. Additionally, Saudi Arabian companies Ma'aden Aluminium and Al Yamamah Steel Industries also hold important positions in the market.

Some market participants indicated that tariffs are causing product prices to rise in the US market, which may weaken the competitiveness of domestic companies and compel exporting countries to seek alternative markets.

Europe, Asia, and Africa are gradually emerging as viable options; however, domestic economies may experience job losses and reduced income due to decreased exports. Furthermore, changes in the supply chain for steel and aluminum are likely to impact the global trade balance.
