Brazil plans to file WTO complaint over US tariffs

31 Mar 2025 15:27 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva denounced US President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 25% tariff on Brazilian steel and aluminum, as well as a new 25% tariff on imported automobiles.

Speaking at a press conference in Tokyo, Lula warned these measures could harm the US economy by raising prices and aggravating inflation. He announced plans to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and consider higher tariffs on US goods.

Lula emphasized that protectionism undermines global economic cooperation and multilateralism, and he hoped other countries affected by US new tariffs could also appeal to the WTO and respond with reciprocal measures if necessary.
