Kazakhstan proposes 6-month ban on steel billet exports

29 May 2025 15:05 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Industry and Construction has drafted an order to impose a six-month ban on the export of steel billets. The proposed restriction, covering iron and non-alloy steel ingots or in other primary forms (excluding iron under tariff code 7203) and semi-finished products made of iron or non-alloy steel, aims to stimulate domestic metallurgical enterprises.

This proposed ban aims to expand Kazakhstan's domestic steel industry by encouraging companies to produce middle and upper-level finished products with higher added value.

The draft order is currently open for public discussion on the Open NPA website until June 11, 2025.
