According to the report, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly recently held a high-level meeting with key ministerial officials and chairmen of domestic steel companies to address the current challenges facing the country’s steel industry and to outline a strategic roadmap for its development.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Madbouly reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to becoming a leading steel production hub in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. He emphasized that the government’s strategy includes enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian steel products, expanding into promising international markets, and fostering the development of downstream industries with advanced technical capabilities and competitive advantages.
To support this vision, the Egyptian government will continue to implement industrial support measures and introduce a range of investment incentives aimed at attracting greater capital into the steel sector.

The Egyptian government also plans to issue several new licenses for the production of small steel billets, under specialized industry regulations. In the interim, before a new electric arc furnace plant begins operations, domestically produced small billets will be supplied in phases to hot rolling mills. This approach is intended to stabilize the local market and advance the country’s goal of achieving greater steel self-sufficiency.

The meeting underscores Egypt’s strategic focus on industrial growth and self-reliance, as well as its ambition to position itself as a key player in the regional steel market.
