The US government has reached a Framework for an Agreement on Reciprocal Trade with Indonesia, concluding a 19% tariff on Indonesia. The US said that the framework would also remove about 99% of trade barriers on the US industrial and food products exports to Indonesia.

According to the framework, Indonesia will commit to joining the Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity, which is an international platform dedicated to reducing global excess steel production capacity.

Indonesia is the world's 10th largest steel exporter, according to data from the US. Indonesia's steel exports grew 385% from 2015 to 2023.

The agreement also includes provisions to prevent Indonesia from imposing trade barriers on the US food and agricultural products. In addition, the agreement requires Indonesia to ban the import of goods produced by forced labor.
