Emsteel introduces import control measures to support UAE steel market

28 Jul 2025 14:26 reported by Julian Lu

On July 25, UAE-based steel producer Emsteel announced a new strategy to counter a surge in imported steel sections, mainly from China, which is pressuring domestic prices and threatening local production.

The company launched a Temporary Import Displacement Discount (TIDD), a new initiative that aims to reward customers who prioritize domestically manufactured steel sections, helping to reduce reliance on imports.

Emsteel emphasized that this situation is not only economic but also a national concern. The discount will apply to eligible domestic orders, with the rate linked to customers’ import volumes as recorded in trade data.
