Brazil requests WTO dispute consultations over US tariffs

12 Aug 2025 16:12 reported by Bob Liu

A A A
Brazil has officially submitted a request for dispute consultation to the World Trade Organization (WTO). Previously, the US imposed tariffs on imports from Brazil, with the maximum rate reaching up to 50%. These measures have seriously affected Brazil's exports to the US. If solutions cannot be reached in the upcoming consultations, the situation could be even worse.

The new tariff measures cover textile, machinery, chemical industry, metal, and other key industries. This makes the trade relationship with the US one of the most sensitive and important economic areas for Brazil.

Under WTO rules, the US must respond within 10 days and open consultations within 30 days.
